Goodwill of Delaware & Delaware County Launches New Program For Seniors
WILMINGTON, DE (August 16, 2022) – Leading regional workforce development provider, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County, was recently awarded the contract for the state of Delaware’s Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in New Castle County. SCSEP is a national job-training program for older, low-income job seekers, funded under Title V of the federal Older Americans Act. Goodwill will provide these services to residents of New
Castle County on behalf of the state of Delaware.
Providing on-the-job training experience and permanent work solutions for those 55 and older rounds out Goodwill’s portfolio of workforce development programming, which focuses on providing opportunities for economic growth for all. As part of the training process participants create an Individual Employment Plan (IEP) that identifies employment goals, barriers to employment, marketable skills, and training needs. Based on each individual plan, participants receive up to 20 hours per week of paid part-time community service job training at local nonprofits or government facilities at no cost to the host agency. The IEP is then updated on a regular basis to ensure that a participant is progressing towards the goal of permanent employment.
“The Senior Community Service Employment Program is yet another example of Goodwill’s commitment to our vision of empowering people, strengthening families, and building communities, all through the Power of Work!” said Colleen Morrone, President, and CEO. “This program will deliver marketable job skills to seniors throughout New Castle County while the participants provide valuable service to area non-profit organizations. Everybody wins when we strengthen communities through service and employment.”
