GOODWILL OF DELAWARE & DELAWARE COUNTY CELEBRATES GOODWILL WEEK
May 8, 2023
WILMINGTON, DE – Each year during the first full week of May, Goodwill organizations across the United States and Canada celebrate Goodwill Week to highlight the Goodwill mission — transforming lives through the power of work. While the U.S. economy is steadily improving and the national unemployment rate continues to decline, many individuals continue to struggle with poverty, homelessness, and lack of access to the resources they need to find and sustain good-paying jobs. That’s where Goodwill comes in. For more than 120 years, Goodwill organizations across North America have helped people find jobs, support their families, and feel the satisfaction that comes from working.
Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County continues to embody the philosophy of “Believing in the Power of Work”, strengthening the regional community and economy by taking a holistic approach to providing the resources people need to obtain and maintain employment while offering essential services in the communities it serves. Through working with clients facing challenges to finding employment, including people with disabilities and disadvantages, older workers, youth, veterans and military families, and people reintegrating back into society from the justice system, Goodwill is changing lives for the better.
This year, Goodwill Week runs May 7 – 13. As part of the celebration, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County will host a donation drive and its Annual Inspiration Awards Luncheon, themed “Celebrating an Ocean of Opportunity”. The Inspiration Awards acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of individuals, and the contributions of organizations who have benefited from, and contributed to, the non-profit mission of Goodwill.
The Inspiration Awards Luncheon will be held Friday, May 12, 20-23, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware. To learn about the 2023 award recipients, visit www.GoodwillDE.org/Awards. Donations will be accepted on the same day in the Chase Center parking lot from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is open to both luncheon attendees as well as community members.

About Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County
For more than 100 years, the mission of Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County has been to improve the quality of life for individuals with barriers to self-sufficiency through the Power of Work! This mission is supported by proceeds from donations to our retail and e-commerce operations, and revenue generated through our Industrial Services and Staffing Services programs. Goodwill endeavors to make the most of every item we receive and minimize what we send to landfills. We’re working to identify ways to operate more sustainably by transforming unsaleable donations into usable materials. Expansion of our sustainability initiatives will benefit communities environmentally and through creation of new entry-level and middle skills jobs.
